Take a Good, Hard Look…

It’s time to take a good hard look at yourself…

At least, that’s what I told myself at the start of the summer, and guess what? I actually did it!

The last time I refreshed my marketing materials was right before the world turned upside down with Covid. I had brand-new demos, a shiny new website, and big plans to launch them all—then the world shut down. While my freelance friends were finding creative ways to adapt, I had some exciting news of my own: we were expecting our second child! So, I decided to hit pause, and instead of business pitches, I spent my time building cardboard castles in the living room with my 3-year-old.

Fast forward to this summer, when things finally quieted down a bit with my teaching work, I knew it was time to revisit everything. And this time, I got some expert help to focus my goals.

First stop? A session with Craig Van Ness at The Showreel, where we dug deep into what I really wanted to achieve. Turns out, my old website and branding weren’t quite hitting the mark or showcasing the best version of “me.” So, we hit reset and started fresh.

With Craig’s insights in mind, I dove into some self-reflection and branding work. I even tackled Cathy Siegal’s awesome book “Voiceover Achiever: Brand Your VO Career, Change Your Life”—which really helped me nail down how I want to present myself.

So, what did I discover about myself?

Well, I’m Australian by birth, but after 20 years in the UK, I’ve spent a lot of time trying to convince people I’m British! I’ve got a foot in both worlds—complete with passports to match. I bring that laid-back Aussie vibe (picture sausages on the BBQ and beach days) mixed with British sophistication (afternoon tea and a day at the races). And as a coach, I love sharing knowledge and helping others.

So, the words I landed on to describe my voice? Warm. Easy-Going. Informative.

And the tagline:
British Poise with Aussie Charm: The Best of Up Here and Down Under.

Next up was sorting the visuals. With the talented Melanie Gale Photography, we captured my brand in a series of new photos to use on my website.

But I didn’t stop there. It was time for new demos too, so I booked another session at The Showreel with Mike. Having recorded my first demo with JP there over 10 years ago, I knew I was in good hands. And I have to say, I’m thrilled with the results.

So, here I am with a fresh demo, a slick new website, and a clear direction. Now it’s time to get out there and connect! I’ll be engaging more with folks here and elsewhere, sharing stories, and having fun along the way.

If you’re up for a chat or want to explore how we can work together, I’d love to connect. Drop me a line, and let’s make it happen! 🌟
